Acme Studios is known for finding the finest examples of European typewriters from the Golden Age of typewriter manufacturing—and this Clipper is outstanding proof of that.  And this, our first new offering for 2024 may blow the rest of the year out of the water—but, no matter!

This is an extraordinarily beautiful and evocative typewriter—and in a lovely state of preservation! This iconic Smith Corona Clipper typewriter dates from 1946 and looks and feels like new.  The typing action is soft and sure, and the platen (with an ideal firmness measurement of ~91 on the Shore A scale) gives a lovely impression to the letters. Look closely at the photos and you will see the marvelous condition of this exceptional machine. The Clipper logo is in perfect, original condition--which is rare indeed!

This Clipper has the later, preferred, full-platen paper bail (the bar that holds the paper down), which is preferred to the "clips" on other versions. It comes with its original case and is "ready-to-type" with a new ribbon on the original metal ribbon spools. The keyboard is QWERTY and the typeface is a fine and elegant Elite (11.5 cpi).

The pleasure of typing on this elegant machine is hard to describe in words. The keys just caress your fingertips and encourage the typing of the next word. The carriage movement feels like it is driven by the fine-tuned workings of a Swiss watch. The "Floating Shift" mechanism is a basket-shift and is light as a feather. The levers on the carriage are ergonomically fit to the hand and aesthetically beautiful. The platen roller knobs are large and fit the hand like a lover's touch.

The "Clipper" logo is one of the most iconic among typewriter symbols and powerfully evokes the feel of the era in which this typewriter was manufactured. The airplane in the logo is the Boeing 314 "Clipper" flying boat, manufactured between 1938 and 1941, that quickly became a powerful symbol for luxurious, international travel.

Acme typewriters have been the choice of discerning collectors and writers more than 1,500 times since we began selling online in 2016. They are fully guaranteed to work. Most shipments to the US arrive in 3 days--often much faster than most domestic shipments within the US. Acme typewriters are carefully selected, beautifully restored and come with a one-year mechanical warranty and lifetime customer-service. Each comes with a lead seal, attached to the body, identifying it as a fully-restored Acme typewriter. Many new dealers strive to imitate us--none succeed.

The external finish--including the perfectly preserved "Clipper" airplane logo--is all original and perfect. It does not have any of the usual wear-marks from the carriage return lever on the top of the ribbon cover.  The chrome pieces are shiny and fresh-looking except for one spot on the left-side carriage knob insert. The keys are in superb condition and the rubber feet are in exceptionally fine condition The paper feed rollers are soft and grip the paper well.

If you wish to replace the original platen rubber, we have that in stock and can replace the original platen rubber for a cost of 115€ (around 125$).

The case is in nearly perfect condition inside and out. The handle is intact and strong and the hasp works perfectly. There is minimal wear or corrosion on the metal parts.

This extraordinary example of a 1946 Smith Corona CLIPPER will be packed and shipped with the greatest care to preserve its condition and beauty. All our shipments are FULLY INSURED. See our many 5-Star reviews on Etsy for confidence in your purchase.
