1976 Hermes Baby Typewriter

This lovely Hermes Baby typewriter has the original, familiar QWERTY keyboard (to make your typing easier and faster) AND it has a like-new platen that will last you many typing-years and makes the typing experience quieter and more satisfying.  What a stunning look this typewriter will have on your desk or wherever you wish to take it! These Hermes typewriters are supremely portable, weighing only around 8 lbs (4 kg). Hermes is, perhaps, the most renowned brand of typewriter ever made. And this particular Baby is not only a wonderfully hip/modern colour, it is in fine condition, mechanically and cosmetically, and has been thoroughly cleaned, serviced, adjusted and aligned. This typewriter has its ORIGINAL colour--it has not been repainted.

This is a typing machine that is ready to work for many good years of typing service. And with its brilliant Hermes engineering, it does that with elegance, smoothness and solidity.
Overall, this typewriter is in excellent condition. There are some signs of use and wear on the plastic body but these are harly noticeable. The chrome is in wonderful condition with no signs of corrosion. The keys are clean and unmarked by use.  The body finish is overall sparkling and glossy. The platen-knobs are absolutely solid and original, unlike many Baby's from this era.
Mechanically, it is in superior working condition. The platen has a perfect softness measurement of 89-90 (ideal is 85 to 95). The rubber feeder rollers are in top condition, soft and clean. The rubber feet hardened with age so we replaced them with new ones. All mechanical devices and mechanisms have been checked and adjusted as necessary, and work as originally manufactured. 
This typewriter has am original QWERTY keyboard with accent keys for European languages. The typeface is Pica with 10 characters to the inch.
The case cover is in fine condition with no damage other than some light scratches which have largely been buffed out. (Sometimes these cases are cracked at the back corners—this one is not.) The handle is strong and the hasp works perfectly.
