  • SORRY , SOLD! 1935 Remington Portable No.5 Typewriter

    €420.00Price

This is a very compact and handsome typewriter from the 1930's. This Portable No.5 is in extraordinarily fine condition: the rich, matte finish, the decals/logos, the chrome parts, the mechanics, the case--everything. The matte-finish is quite uncommon to find on this model of typewriter. It is a lovely machine to type on with a nice feel of connection between the typing keys and the imprint on paper, and a very solid feel. For a letter-writer, poet or daily journalist, you couldn't ask for a finer typewriter.

This typewriter was principally marketed for home-use. It was meant to be a simpler typewriter than most being offered at the time. The high quality of the manufacturing is evident in all the details. Because it is a somewhat smaller typewriter than many, it will fit nicely on almost any desk or display shelf. This model has a "tab" key, also called a "paragraph" key, which moves the carriage five spaces. It is the red key to the right of the keyboard marked "Par".

Acme typewriters have been the choice of discerning collectors and writers more than 1,000 times since we began selling online in 2016. They are fully guaranteed to work. Most shipments to the US arrive in 3 days--often much faster than most domestic shipments within the US. Acme typewriters are carefully selected, beautifully restored and come with a one-year mechanical warranty and lifetime customer-service. Each comes with a lead seal, attached to the body, identifying it as a fully-restored Acme typewriter. Many new dealers strive to imitate us--none succeed.

In superior cosmetic condition and working perfectly. The original colour is uniform everywhere on the typewriter and the finish is virtually unblemished. The keytops are unscratched and the platen is clean, smooth and has a hardness measurement of ~93 (between 85 and 95 is considered ideal). The paper feed rollers and the rubber feet are in excellent condition. The case is also in excellent condition. The hasps work perfectly. The leather of the handle is thick and strong and so is entirely sound for carrying the typewriter.

Mechanically it is in perfect working condition. It does not seem to have been much used and to have been carefully maintained as well. It has been fully cleaned, adjusted, aligned and lubricated for years of future use.

The typeface is Pica, 10 cpi. The keyboard is original QWERTY and has additional keys for European languages.
